I’m not sure about you, but it was time to stare at something other than the four walls of our house and have a weekend away. It’s kinda crazy because I consider myself an extreme homebody. In a “normal” life I’m home all day working while the kids are at school and evenings are spent either at dance classes or sports for the boys. I usually arrange my errands for groceries and things for those evenings so I’m extremely limited on my leaving the house if I don’t really have to.
Well, now that we are basically six weeks in at being on a stay home order we were all climbing the walls. Andrew came home from work last Wednesday and asked if we wanted to head up to the family cabin about 5 hours north of us since he needed to deliver some equipment and the kids jumped at the chance. I’ll be honest, at first I was hesitant because the kids couldn’t do their school work while there [extreme wilderness with no cell service or internet], but they all buckled in and finished their assignments for the week on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning so they were good to go.
Is your jaw dropping as much as Andrew’s did at the fact I packed for Thursday – Sunday in one little bag? There is a bonus to my mother in law snagging all of the shampoo and body washes from when they stay at hotels that we never have to pack that kind of stuff. But, I was pretty impressed with the capacity of this bag!
You truly never know what the weather is going to be like there. Two nights we had the fireplace roaring, and the last night we had to open the windows!
Andrew has been coming up here since he was a kid bear hunting and about five years ago they found a lot and built a cabin so the whole family could stay together, especially during hunting season and all of the new generations.
It felt good to spend some time outside. I don’t shoot often, so Parker had to help show me what to do, but I did nail that target about 50% of the time which I consider a win! Lots of fishing and turkey hunting went down, but there was no success there. They did see a bear while turkey hunting, and one came into the camp each night!
With not having any internet or cell service I was able to finally sit down and read a few books that were in my Kindle library. I started off with Come Back for Me by Corinne Michaels [read it in under 24 hours] then finally started The Wife Between Us. I’m only a few chapters in, but am fully vested for this story to twist and turn!
The weekend unplugged and outside of our normal four walls was truly good for the soul. Now if our weather doesn’t start warming up around here, we may be heading south for a long weekend because we’ve had enough cold and grey skies! I hope if you’re able to “stay at home” somewhere else you can do it, because it really was refreshing!
Hope you enjoyed a look into our weekend away and unplugged!
