If there is one piece of clothing I wear year long, it would be a sweatshirt. Due to the always unpredictable weather we see on the east coast, it could hit 90 degrees during the day, but the evenings will chill down quite a bit, so you need a spring and summer sweatshirt to help out.
When shopping for a summer sweatshirt, I look for a few key details.
- Spring and summer colors. Think bright colors or even a good solid white.
- Lightweight. When I mention a sweatshirt, I’m not talking about a heavy sherpa. Think more lightweight, just to give that extra layer but not make you sweat.
- Length matters. Since I’ll be pairing them with shorts for the most part, tunic-length sweatshirts are something I steer clear from. Something that hits right at the hip for a good little tuck or a cropped length to wear with high-waisted shorts or jeans.

This v-neck sweatshirt is a great change up from all of the others in my closet. We’re used to seeing sweatshirts with the classic crew neckline, however changing it up like this where there isn’t as much skin coverage is perfect for spring and summer. Lots of great bright colors too! It has an oversized fit [I’m wearing the extra small.] but still a great length. A pretty pink like this is perfect for adding a pop of color to your white jeans or shorts.

I’m a sucker for a graphic style sweatshirt with bright colors! Obviously, this one doesn’t disappoint in that category. A great lightweight sweatshirt material will have you not think twice about taking it with you on your beach vacation this summer. This one is currently on sale!

A flirty sleeve is all you need here. If you have a smaller frame, a sweatshirt like this is perfect for you. Now, if you do have broader shoulders, I don’t recommend a top like this because it will make you appear even wider at the top. As long you want a little lift this sweatshirt will be a great addition to your closet. Plus, these colors? They scream spring and summer!

This sweatshirt is a splurge, but when it’s so different than any other sweatshirt you may have in your closet… it’s worth it! The only downfall? A strapless bra is required.
Now you have a few fresh ideas to help keep that sporadic summer chill that may come around off your shoulders. The great thing about all of these options? They start at under $20! Proof that it doesn’t have to cost a small fortune for a cute sweatshirt if you don’t want it to. Happy shopping!
